Bulmers Norman

A traditional English bittersweet cider apple introduced by the Bulmer family in the early 1900s. Known for its firm tannins, moderate bitterness, and reliable yields, Bulmers Norman adds structure, body, and a classic old-world character to cider blends. It’s rarely used as a single-varietal, but it excels as a backbone apple in traditional, tannin-driven ciders.

Cidermaker Notes: This very tannic apple is a favourite to add to our Traditional Cider - providing rich bold tannin and a dark honey colour. However our trees for this variety are extremely bi-annual meaning one year we get lots of these apples and other years nearly none. The resulting cider vintages will fluctuate between heavily tannic and more light and crisp due to the amount of Bulmers Norman in the blend.
